The MSM has him on the verge of impeachment yet once again but all I see are history breaking — and history making — decisions that will be written about positively for decades but that barely get a mention in the MSM contemporaneously.
President Bill Clinton enacted criminal reform that screwed the black community and neither Bush nor Obama would sign a reform bill when both were presented with hard evidence of discriminatory effects by a coalition of groups, and a new crime bill whip list that read like a who’s who. Both of them still turned down the opportunity to step up and fix the problem.
Trump did it this week.
Watch Van Jones of “whitewash” fame, certainly no fan of this president (on CNN) GUSH about how it was Trump, at a high cost to his political structure, that finally made this happen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXU9WzdFRbo&feature=youtu.be
Lot of praise in there from Jones for Kushner as well. Same with Mexico and the Middle East, disparate voices from all of these places (Haley too) and all of them singing the praises of Kushner. Is he our first Jewish president?
To do this Trump had to push Senate president Mitch McConnell’s head into a basket and this has Washington talking.
Trump also announced our withdrawal from Syria and even though the predictable negative voices are being blasted on the media, I could hear the whole country collectively sigh this morning “Oh my God, we have a President who actually plans to get us out of these 1/2 dozen crazy wars!”
Most people will not admit this publicly but they have had doubts about what we are doing in the Middle East for 50 years now, and it isn’t getting any better. The United States alone has been at war in Afghanistan for 17 years. They’ve been at war in Afghanistan for 23 years before that. There is no strategic objective that justifies this and hasn’t been one for the US — since the 9-11 training camps were eliminated. I think Trump understands how bad is for America — and the country’s we occupy — and wants both sides to heal which means we bring the troops home. Thank God he thinks this way and has the courage to do something about it against the media, the Pentagon, the Senate, and most of his cabinet.
Earlier this year I watched the Senate leadership (on TV) promise him substantial funding for the wall — before the end of this year and then I watched them leave it out — after Trump told everybody on national TV he would not sign a CR without wall funding.
McConnell presented him with one anyway. The disrespect this President endures from the media, from the Republican old guard, from everybody it seems — except his political base — is astonishing.
This President is courageous, these decisions are good ones and will have long-lasting positive effects and this is all happening against the tide because Trump loves his country and refuses to betray the voters and the promises he made them while running for office.
The US government spends 10 times the cost of the wall, in a few years, on foreign aid to these countries (!!) and in domestic entitlements — for illegal immigrants already here in the US — and Trump has signed off on ALL of it –and still, they will not build the wall.
I hope he shuts it down. I hope he tells McConnell why he is doing it. McConnell is not the president of the United States, Trump is, and McConnell needs to keep his word to that man or betray all the rest of us.
