After Trump appointed Jeff Sessions to the AG spot, Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation and Rod Rosenstein, as acting AG on that topic, then appointed Mueller Special Counsel.
This was premature, a disaster for the country — and as the investigation has proven, no link between Russian collusion and the president has ever even been suggested by Mueller’s team. The Manafort tax charges are 10 years old and the Cohen tax and hooker hush money beefs, are not electioneering issues.
All of this “Witch Hunt” type activity, without a crime — infuriated Trump — as it should have and then over a year ago — he got the really bad news.
Senator Chuck Grassley, one of the most powerful men in America, had a tight schedule.
So tight, he was sure that if the president did fire Sessions, there would NOT be any time on it to conform another. Grassley was giving Trump the word, until I say so, Sessions stays.
Now, at long last, Grassley has indicated, if Sessions were to be fired and/or resign, suddenly his schedule is freeing up — and he could fit in new AG confirmation hearings.
That sound you hear cracking is the floor beneath Sessions feet.
Grassley has finally tired of Sessions inaction, or Grassley really does (lol) just believe the president should be able to pick his own team — provided Grassley believes them competent. If Grassley actually had such a standard, he would not have for voted for half of the Obama administration appointees he did vote for but that’s a nit pick.
Sessions is a good guy and has done a good job at DOJ, but the corruption nestled into the FBI counter espionage division and directed at the Trump campaign was a problem Sessions has not addressed and Trump is right — this series of felonies propagated by the Democrats — is hurting the country, and only a revitalized DOJ and cleaned up FBI can fix it.
Why hasn’t Sessions been more assertive against Awan, Wasserman Shultz, Hillary, Power and Rice? I really don’t know. Crimes were committed, the evidence has been public for some time, and for some reason, justice only seems to move swiftly when you are a DOJ/FBI enemy — and moves like frozen molasses when you are a friend.
