North Korea Crisis Escalates: “Fire & Fury”
I saw the President’s “Fire and Fury” remarks tonight concerning the North Korean military’s threat to strike Guam with 4 missiles and I must admit, it startled me at first, then I read what the Mayor of Guam had to say.
Those same remarks were welcome music to Guam’s Mayor:
The Daily Caller — The governor of Guam, facing threats from North Korea, said Wednesday that he wants a president who will respond with “fury” if U.S. territories are attacked, according to The Daily Caller.
Many have criticized Trump for promising “fire and fury” if North Korea continues to threaten the United States, especially with nuclear weapons, but Gov. Eddie Calvo seemed unbothered by Trump’s approach.
“As far as I’m concerned, as an American citizen, I want a president that says that if any nation such as North Korea attacks Guam…that they will be met with hell and fury,” Calvo declared.
What came next from Calvo’s mouth was surprising, but then again, maybe not. Graham needs to work back toward the president and has no idea this is so.
In fact, Calvo said he was more disturbed by Sen. Lindsey Graham’s statement that “if there was going to be a war, it would be in the region, not in America.”
“This is American sovereign soil…there are over 200,000 American citizens,” Calvo said, noting his island’s geographic proximity to North Korea.
I agree with Calvo of course, something must be done to reverse this renegade ICBM and nuke program because they are Americans and we will have to retaliate if they fire at our people. I agree this nepotistic NK regime is repressive, murderous, and capable of great carnage, and I agree therefore concerning NK, the POTUS’s first obligation is the safety of the American people.
The NK regime is an imminent threat to that safety in great numbers, as demonstrated by the NK government’s remarkable progress in their missile and nuke program. Step by step the entire world has watched for years now as they conquered one technical barrier after another on their way to a small enough, light enough, re-entry capable warhead, fitted to a ICBM, multi-stage rocket. Are they all the way there yet?
Most experts still have doubts about some piece or another of their program, like the quality of the miniaturization and/or whether one of their warheads would survive re-entry. Still, they now have a majority of the pieces for sure and that coupled with the horrible political ill will and unstable situation in every other way imaginable — make this version of the crisis even more dangerous.
The NK military could not have achieved all this progress without Russian and Chinese technical and financial assistance and proof of this is that that one stage of the NK ICBM, is a Russian designed Scud missile.
I saw and heard something in the President’s demeanor tonight that was different. He won’t tolerate specific threats against American cities and allies. And God forbid if they fire missiles at Guam. Trump isn’t joking. This isn’t Obama and his “Red Line” lies and nonsense.
Trump is also convinced, that the U.S. can’t give an inch — because that has universally ended in failure much more dramatic than stalemate would have yielded. This has prepared him to act. Whatever else they do, they must stop this testing associated with their ICBM missile, because I think, if body language means anything at all, they are out of time.
Anyway, here is the triggering statement below from Yonhap that got the President so worked up. When you read it of course, you can see the difficulty, it’s like the NK regime is deliberately attempting to push the U.S. into action.
SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) — North Korea’s military said Thursday it is considering firing four intermediate-range ballistic missiles around Guam, home to several U.S. strategic bombers.
North Korea’s strategic force is “seriously examining the plan for an enveloping strike at Guam through simultaneous fire of four Hwasong-12 intermediate-range strategic ballistic rockets in order to interdict the enemy forces on major military bases on Guam and to signal a crucial warning to the U.S.,” according to the Korean Central News Agency in English.
It said that the missiles would fly over Japan and land near the U.S. territory of Guam, adding that the country will report its detailed plan to leader Kim Jong-un by mid-August.
