Why I want Trump to stop tweeting
Trump tweets because it’s his press organ, the entire thing, he can’t count on the media to even report what he says with remote accuracy so he losses control of the press narrative, a big deal, if he stops tweeting.
However, I think he should stop.
His tweets are a direct look into his state of mind, and what his mind is thinking about – and neither of those things are appropriate for a sitting POTUS. I agree the tweet thing was genius and I agree it worked and I agree it gives him an opportunity to fight a cultural and press war against an enemy that used cultural and press advantages for political power, this is all true and makes Trump a genius.
But there are a lot of geniuses; there is only one president.
He has the responsibility for the world’s most potent nuclear arsenal and war machine ever constructed on his shoulders with a lot of other stuff and I don’t want anybody – not anybody – other than Senate confirmed appointees, with security clearances and protections, knowing what he is thinking, when he is thinking, what his state of mind is, or why. It’s just too important a sanctum for him to open a window too into everyday and he does open the window, so asking him to keep it down I suspect will not work.
Stop tweeting. Do your job. You may lose some rounds in the culture war because of non-participation, but you’ll be a better president, and the American people will appreciate you for it, even though you may not believe me, you should believe in them.
