The new FISA Court Report points to the size of the Constitutional Crisis we are in — and forces change at NSA
I was having trouble sleeping, so I read the massive new FISA Court report on the naughty NSA, and in between endless pages of nonsense — there are pearls — which I will summarize here.
The NSA collected a shitload of data on thousands of non “targeted” Americans, (Oooopps) beginning in 2010 — and the FISA Court found out about this — and have been attempting to force the NSA into meaningful reform – these many long years.
Now the NSA is admitting to the FISA Court, their reform package of administrative changes was a failure, because it didn’t reduce the huge stream of people being intercepted – that should NOT have been – and as a result of this sudden realization — they (NSA) are now, miraculously, going to change course completely.
They now AGREE with the FISA Court that destruction of the upstream Internet data collection, on a 1 year age-off basis, for everything (other than targeted data) is the only solution.
Amazing huh? I sound a little sarcastic here because the NSA misled the Court repeatedly in the summary data which make up the first 70 pages of the report, and then suddenly, the Court believes them, all over again.
And I’m NOT even sure of that – because — there are probably holes in this agreement — I couldn’t see — because the released report was heavily redacted, but this looks, on the surface anyway, like an incredibly fortuitous turn — in the right direction.
If the NSA can be trusted.
Did I really just write that?
My only non-sarcastic question?
Why didn’t the FISA Court get to this resolution — a few YEARS ago?
