Israel must honor God or the Rule of Law is meaningless

Prime Minister Netanyahu, whom my readers know — I usually agree with – finally has a BIG issue, all wrong.

Netanyahu is pushing to codify into LAW, the principle that Israel is a “Jewish State.”

On the surface, this appears to be simply recognizing an existing fact, but it’s much more than that, it is a huge mistake, of gigantic proportions and should be discussed in every corner of the globe.

Mankind has crept forward, from the horrors of world war, slavery and barbarianism through an instrument called the rule of law.

This instrument is all-powerful — if constructed, and used properly, and one of the key rules concerning the proper use of the rule of law, is not to mix in religion.

It’s O.K. for a religious sin like murder to also be coincidentally forbidden by the legal system, provided the reason it isn’t prohibited is because it’s religiously taboo.

Essentially Christ put this perfectly while looking at a coin with Caesar’s face upon it.

“Give unto Caesar that which is his…” was much more than good tax advice. Christ was freeing mankind — to freely choose his or hers own metaphysical relationship and level of devotion to God — free from the control of the earthly Kings and/or Caesars’s.

That’s one side of the coin, but the other side also leaves mankind obligated to obey the laws and leaders of this realm.

Thinking about the times he lived in, this appears odd, but Christ understood what the men of his time did not, when we have an obligation to obey the secular Rule of Law, where we physically live as righteous metaphysical men, that rule of law definition will change, it will evolve. It will become more and more love motivated as God himself evolves the definition in each and every one of us. Men like Abraham Lincoln, then appear, and get a chance to operate on both sides of the coin. Lincoln used God’s wisdom, to change our secular legal system, but only after coming to power within the secular authority system.

The gross violation of this separation principle is why Sharia Law is such a failure and is responsible for so much suffering. Imagine a Christian society under strict biblical enforcement interpretations, it would look a lot like an ISIL held town.

The Israeli government, Netanyahu, and the Israeli people should know all this, they’ve literally been through the desert on this point, they should know this idea is a bad one and they should know – it’s is an insult to God — it’s proof we (mankind) are not listening, and it’s a fall in the wrong direction.

It will be as destructive to what Israel stands for in the long run — as all the secret plans ever hatched by the Arab states against her — combined — could have been.

The 20% minority population in Israel — mostly Muslim — oppose this move, because they know they can never achieve justice in a country under this principle.

Ironic, right?

God is mysterious, love is mysterious, maybe this is the tool God will use to show the Muslims — how wrong Sharia law is — who knows. But right now, he needs to remind the Israeli’s as well.

Another excellent post, Karl. Spot on. It is easy for me to say as a US citizen, Israel has been slipping into a zealous Hassidic hijacking for decades but ultimately, Zionism and Judaism are diametrically opposed. Don’t take my word for it – I saw it written, in English, on a wall in the Hassidic corridor in Jerusalem in 1983. the point was secularism and the Torah can not or should not exist in the State of Israel. It struck me as fanatic but at that time the Hassidim / ultra-O’s were about 1% of the population.

What is that percentage now, Meir? Obviously, enough to influence the democracy.

The more the Israeli Government kills the secular, humanist, and even gnostic energy of the State, the worse it bodes for the future of all Jews in the world. The two fastest growing identities in Judiasm are secular/humanist and Hassidic (because of the several children per household).

Dare I say that Israel will look more like Iran than Norway in 20 years?
