Even More BAD news from Russia

Even More BAD news from Russia

Putin has his eye on the Baltics, something even Obama seems to have regrettably accepted. I say this because he just sent 3,000 U.S. troops to Poland — for the first time since WWII. The Poles welcomed them with open arms, and a silent prayer that Putin will hesitate before attacking Poland, or her neighbors, because attacking Poland now — means attacking U.S. troops directly.

Obama has been quietly putting troops in the expected path of the Russian onslaught for over a year now. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine (probably) have all gotten men and equipment — and Germany has been secretly and massively reinforced. Good for Obama.

Let’s hope Putin isn’t REALLY planning to use the missile defense system, described below in Mailonline:

Russia has deployed anti-aircraft missile systems around Moscow to protect the capital from attack in the latest sign Vladimir Putin is preparing for war.

The s-400 Triumph air defence system has been providing air cover for Russian forces in Syria since November, and is now being deployed on home soil.

It is capable of hitting moving airborne targets including planes and incoming missiles and has a range of 400km.  The news has emerged the day the US sent more than 3,000 troops to Poland in response to Nato’s concern Russia was becoming more aggressive.

The Senate confirmation hearings have been VERY unhelpful. People like Marco Rubio, a neophyte in foreign relations with a child like personality, pushing Tillerson to label Putin a war criminal was an incredibly stupid political ploy.
Combine that with the Russia bashing that the Left has been doing in their anguish over the election loss, trying to force the next administration into a corner.
Our current government officials have essentially shouted out that the next administration should be coming after Russia for their land grabs and defiance of international law.
It is like telling them: if they want to grab anything – NOW is the time to do it before the new sheriff comes to town!

This political game has deadly consequences! Furthermore, the Senate confirmation committees’ attacks on China should give one pause to realize that a 2 front war before the 20th of January is about a 10% possibility.

The chances of Russia alone testing the Obama CIC decision making with deeper troop movements and a land grab is 30% IMO. Hot War possibility depends upon the US reaction. Today was a good but small start toward dissuasion.
(I sure hope that our boys at the Div of S&T have figured out a way to “short out” the S-400s. Instinct tells me they may have. Hope so. We will need to disable it in the coming 3 years in Syria if not elsewhere.)

I had said that IF Russia were to invade the Baltics, it would have to happen before Obama leaves, so that Putin could negotiate his spoils of war “truce” with Trump, a man he mistakenly thinks will be his friend.
But, Putin miscalculates the ramifications of his actions frequently. He typically backs up his decisions with overwhelming force against weak or exposed enemies. It works on the small stuff.
This will not work for Putin in the Baltics as Putin is a fool compared to Trump’s abilities, both personally and as a decision making CIC.
Additionally, I think Obama will take any invasion by Russia rather personally as he blames Putin for ruining his legacy by undermining HRC’s election chances.
Putin will absolutely lose this encounter and be toppled should he proceed with aggression in the Baltics. But, he is a foolish man…
