Obama does not understand his own 55% popularity rating
The amazing quotes by the President, in a CNN “interview” with David Axelrod, I think, are rooted in his deep misunderstanding of his popularity rating.
Americans love Obama, he is right about that, BUT, they are equally tired of his policies — and most assuredly — would not have re-elected him. The public combines popularity with political support at the beginning of a President’s term(s), but at the end of his term, the math reverses, Americans love their past Presidents, with only a few exceptions, like parents, people we can disagree with vehemently — but still love for prior service. That doesn’t mean we’d move back home.
If Obama was correct, if America wanted the Obama agenda carried forward, if even the old CORE of the Democratic Party (MI, WI, PA) had been enthusiastic about the Obama agenda; Hillary would have won.
It’s really that simple.
Any other view is partisan BS, because that’s how our system works — and those states SWITCHED sides in that system. Here’a bit from that CNN interview.
“Describing his confidence in an America that is “tolerant” and “full of energy,” Obama said: “I am confident in this vision because I’m confident that … if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could’ve mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it.”
The outgoing president made the comments as part of an extensive interview with David Axelrod, for his podcast produced by CNN and the University of Chicago. Axelrod was one of Obama’s top advisers during the 2008 campaign and his first term in the White House.”
