What DoD should do in case the Chinese and/or Russians are hunting our GPS satellites…
In a nutshell, we would need an alternative, and using technology from the space shuttle communication satellites, the TDDRS, put back to use here on Earth, we could do it.
Here is a very brief discussion explaining one way to do it.
A secure, non-gps dependant, terrestrial, communication and location system; the military can develop quickly (existing tech) and deploy within critical time limits over even large geographic areas.
This AltNet would have “GPS-like” accuracy — each unit attached to a cell tower — can be enabled down to +/-.5 Meter using Coherent On Receive Only (CORO) enabled transponders on a terrestrial network of towers talking to devices with a CORO chip and a second antenna.
Huge boost in through put on this altnet as well. You’ll need some line of sight relay stations between towers for laser transmission between towers but this is doable easily.
