Todays Mish-mash

  1. Reddit CEO Ellen Pao must be the most unpopular CEO in America today. Her own base of Regular Reddit users/readers/contributors; despises her and is actively seeking her exit from the position and the company. Difficult to see how she survives this, even if she can use a power move to stay afloat — how can she justify the loss in value to shareholders that a war with their own base maximizes, all other factors aside?
  1. The Republicans gave President Obama TTP authority, now the question is, what will this deal look like; is the Sovereignty issue real? How bad is it? Can a foreign treaty ever remove Congressional retraction authority even if it says so? What if the SCOTUS does not agree?
  1. My only problem with all this is that I don’t like treaties with “Secret” parts. That’s code for “Stuff we can’t tell you little people because it may cause violence in the streets” I could wrap my hands around international arbitration if there were certain exceptions, which this treaty and/or treaties may or may not address but I’m not one of the very select few who have been allowed (surprise!) to read the “Secret” parts, meaning this will be an unknown for a long time and will have great power from Day 1, probably not a good idea from a mathematical viewpoint.
  1. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, after pledging her support for Police Commissioner Batts repeatedly, let him go today. This man was doing a terrible job and had neither the support of the rank and file or the people of Baltimore. But the Mayor should be careful, she will get the blame for this mess (deservedly so) before all is said and done, but not from a political hack/boss like Batts did, but from the people of the city who I predict, will not re-elect this political creature who is nothing but a walking, talking Democratic Party agenda pusher, and little else of anything substantive. Baltimore needs a real Mayor right now, not another Democratic Party hack with nothing but divisive rhetoric in his or hers goody bag of solutions. Frankly, she reminds me of Hillary Clinton, lots of talk and lies, precious little real leadership.
  1. The NYSE was not functioning today for 3 or 4 hours due to a technical failure.
  1. The Chines stock markets plunged again today, and as many as 25% of the companies listed have asked to have trading in their shares suspended. This market is a bubble, the real question, how to get out of asset bubbles without asset crashes and the answer is, you can’t.
  1. It’s the middle of July, two weeks past the drop dead, extended deadline — and the Iranian nuclear agreement Secretary of State John Kerry has been promising for months, is still not done, and if the talk out of the Ayatollah is an indicator, it never will be — at least to anyone but delusional Kerry’s satisfaction.
  1. The days are ticking by and no one in authority is discussing the upcoming Chinese Summit in September, a meeting I feel has huge implications for the whole world. My bet is that not only doesn’t the Obama administration have a strong game plan for this meeting; I think they will even fail to focus on the right issues. Obama is still playing at being president, while the world prepares to literally catch fire around him.
  1. Donald Trump, the complete ass that he is, has declared war on immigrants, and my fear is this logic always has more pull during tough economic times. Jeb Bush stood up to him and forcefully put his ideas where they belong, in a trash can, but my biggest fear, that only a Bush will have a shot in this race, is growing everyday. I applaud his courage, his statements putting Trump in the classification he belongs in (Bigot), but wish the other Republicans challengers would stand up and say the same.
  1. My garden is doing great, throwing off huge squash, zucchini and soon ripe red tomatoes. It’s the only really good news I could finish with.
