I heard the president whining today that he thinks the coverage of the poverty issue is unbalanced, and in particular (I swear I’m not making this up) he singled out Fox News network as a source of stories where: “They find one black guy who doesn’t want to work and wants his free Obama-phone.”
The president graciously even said then these folks who give Fox these interviews, “Even make me mad.” That got a laugh and as he was speaking you couldn’t help notice how relaxed and sharp he seemed. It’s gratifying and even warming to see that in the president and if I didn’t know what a complete mess he had around him, it would reassure me.
Unfortunately things are a big mess around the president and if he doesn’t get completely off the track he’s on, and into a whole new track very fast, he may go down in history as one of the worst president’s ever. I don’t say that lightly and I don’t think people should say things like that at all — without a lot of evidence — so here goes.
Today – His Democratic party allies, including Harry Reid, smashed his fast track authority for a trade deal in the face — leaving the president many votes short of a veto proof count — which is the only deal the Republicans are interested in making with him right now. That dooms two other trade deals, which are dependent on this authority, since Congress will never pass them otherwise.
Today – Most of our long-standing Arab allies, including Saudi Arabia and the GCC block have decided to skip the president’s Arab “Summit” at Camp David. This is not a public relations disaster; it means they choose to create such a thing because they trust this president that little. The president has played fast and loose with the rules and the truth and now very important people don’t believe him anymore.
Today – The Chinese government rebuked a U.S. military report on their island building campaign in the South China Sea. They’re building islands to house airstrips so they can claim air rights and sovereignty and get mineral and fishing rights over vast stretches of ocean. The president is not engaged on this issue, not engaged on the Yuan trading band issue, not engaged on the SDR issue, not engaged on the monetary crisis developing between these two huge nations; why? Because he wanted China to commit cut CO2 gases at some future date — and that’s all he sees and so that’s what he concentrates on. CO2 isn’t creating a fraction of the havoc the stuff he is ignoring is, and I don’t think he understands that at all.
Today – Angela Merkel was engaged in another stare down with Putin over his now resurgent war in Ukraine that intelligence reports on armor movements indicate could take a very bad turn soon. Of course she’s doing this with Secretary of State Kerry, which is the same as having no help at all. I’d say that was probably better off, but Kerry is so delusional at the moment, so likely to say or do the wrong thing, he’s part of the president’s dysfunction at this point.
Today – Iran continues to give the president and Kerry the middle finger, attacking every statement the president makes, insisting that his version of the fact sheet isn’t what they agreed to, but simultaneously saying his and only his agreement, (not Congresses version) is what they’ve signed on to. They’re such liars and terrorists and everyday the president stays in their corner, the Democratic Party is oozing votes, strength, money and influence all over the place.
Today – the President of the United States stooped to picking on a single news network, while most of the other major networks cover him like a warm blanket. Doesn’t he understand how that diminishes, demeans and degrades his office? Each time he does this Fox gleefully runs the clip over and over, layering in all the other times he was foolish enough to mention them by name. Even Nixon was smarter than this. The black president is now losing even the reasonable, middle class blacks that don’t want their businesses burned up — and who now know the president’s liberal rhetoric is false. He’s already lost the Jewish part of the Democratic base up to the J Street liberals, and once this Iranian deal goes bad, they’ll be gone too.
He should throw darts at policy memos on a dart board, he’d have a better track record.
