The former Mayor of New York made headlines this week when he accused the President of not loving his own country. Naturally this caused quite a stir, and some others have joined in. Unfortunately for the president, Giuliani’s remarks came during the same news cycle as the Netanyahu speech and all it’s unfortunate baggage and mud — most of which the President splashed on himself.
I will admit, the president’s position on Iran (maybe wrong) bothers me, and his position on the Netanyahu speech (definitely wrong) bothers me even more, and where the administration seems to be going next is catastrophically wrong; so I decided to take a step back and examine this issue for my fabulous blog 5 and see how and why the administration got down this road so wrong — so very, very far — and yet are still so convinced they are right.
To do this right I’ve separated the president from his advisors and their positions, essentially leaving him room in my calculus to change his mind and retreat from this cliff if he determines that the strategy either wasn’t well thought out to begin with; or, the Iranians haven’t made either the necessary concessions and/or cannot be trusted to keep the ones they have made. Since I think both of those are very true, he’s got lots to work with here.
My analysis was incredibly useful because it points directly to this crackpot Hillary Mann Leverett and her crackpot husband as the root cause of Obama’s complete loss of touch with reality on this issue.
I’ll quote from a piece she recently wrote on this issue and I want you to note a few important factors. First, she talks like someone who’s gone native and isn’t even hiding her contempt for the U.S. — and it’s negotiating positions — and this has led her to the unbelievable conclusion that Iran is going to be a regional power with hegemony and we should accept and even embrace this as the natural order for the region, not U.S. hegemony.
Here’s the quotes, if they don’t disturb you, you don’t know the actual facts about Iran’s nuclear program and so — I present them as well after this amazing Leveret garbage which I’ve concluded was the theoretical basis for the Obama negotiating teams strategy.
From an actual written statement published a few years ago by this woman that if read in churches and synagogues nationwide would cause riots.
“…The US never intended the peace process to help Palestinians achieve real self-determination – for that would inevitably constrain Israel’s exercise of military supremacy over its neighbourhood, attenuating America’s own drive for Middle Eastern dominance.
— Hillary Mann Leverett”
The process has instead been conducted to empower Israel, to subordinate Palestinians and other Arabs into an increasingly militarised (sic) US sphere of influence, and to leverage Arab states’ buy-in to this scenario — Hillary Mann Leverett”
She not only openly calls the U.S. an imperialistic power; she is advocating Iranian not American hegemony in that region, and unfettered restrictions on the Iranians enrichment capacity. Think I’m joking? read on.
“ It should be clear by now that the Islamic Republic is going to continue enriching uranium. — Hillary Mann Leverett “
That point which she’s clear on, the rest of the world isn’t.
“From a non-proliferation standpoint, does the international community really want Iran pursuing enrichment under circumstances in which Tehran is progressively alienated from the non-proliferation regime’s “managers” because of the way the Iranian program is treated — with sanctions, talk about military strikes, and perhaps even the initiation of aggressive war against Iran by Israel or the United States? — Hillary Mann Leverett ”
This woman makes Neville Chamberlain look like a war hawk.
She’s truly a loony and guess what? She’s friends with Hillary, Kerry, Obama, and of course writes this trash for the NYT. I don’t mind liberal stupidity, I’m even pretty liberal on a lot of issues — usually — but when it’s going to get Tel Aviv incinerated – I draw the line.
She’s deluded this woman, deluded, what the hell do the Iranians need an enrichment program for at all? Even 1 centrifuge? They don’t UNLESS they want a bomb.
“Iranian officials have also indicated their openness to multilateral cooperation on enrichment — so long as, under whatever cooperative arrangements might be established, uranium enrichment continues to take place inside Iran. — Hillary Mann Leverett”
The problem with her nonsensical position that the Iranians don’t want to build a bomb — is the accompanying statement that they want to keep running all the machinery necessary to make one!
Significant evidence exists which prove Iran has, and still is, pursuing pieces, parts and processes inside secret nuclear facilities that are good for only one thing (neutron trigger), making a nuclear bomb (and shaping the fissile plug) for a warhead.
Meaning the agreement as outlined above, would give them the enrichment capacity, over time, to stockpile against the construction of a finished bomb design, much of the work of which has already been done, and critically 8 or 9 or these bomb making dirty dozen questions posed by the IAEA – have never been answered by Iran. Never.
That is more questions about these specific bomb making components that haven’t been answered by Iran – than they have answered.
There’s only a few questions the president needs to ask this Leveret woman and Kerry next time he has them up to the White House.
Obama, at the top of his lungs:
“If the Iranians AREN’T building a bomb what the hell do they 20,000 centrifuges, neutron triggers, fissile plug shaping and nuclear bomb design tools and software for? Why? Why?”
He should pause here for effect, And then finish strong.
“And if they aren’t making a bomb why are the questions about these critical bomb making components — the only ones we can’t get answers too — from Iran — after years and years of asking?”
The President loves his country, he’s just got some idiots working for him that don’t.
